Ronnie Sanders is an American conductor and composer. He made his Carnegie Hall conducting debut in a critically acclaimed performance with the New England Philharmonic Orchestra in 2005. Sanders' repertoire spans from Renaissance to Romantic, Classical to post-modern. His skills on the podium come from his lifelong interest in music history and performance practice.
Sanders was privileged to have been personally coached by Milton Katims, who was the conductor of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra from 1954 - 1976. Katims performed with and was a conducting protégé of Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini. Not only is Sanders an established orchestral conductor, he has conducted opera, ballet, concerti, choral works and numerous musicals.
"The term 'Renaissance man' might be overused, but it surely applies in the case of Ronnie Sanders" Nicholas Frank, (San Antonio Report, Dec. 1, 2024).
Hailed by Diane Windler as a conductor with "authority on the podium" (San Antonio Light, Dec. 1988), Sanders earned two Grammy Signature Awards for excellence in music education. He was appointed by Texas governor Rick Perry to serve on the Texas Commission on the Arts from 2011 to 2018.
Sanders authored the biographical entry on British composer Tarik O'Regan, published in the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians. He currently serves as the artistic director of the South Texas Symphonic Orchestra. He is in demand as a guest lecturer, clinician and conductor.
Sanders earned a master's degree in conducting from the University of Houston, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University. He and his lovely wife Nancy have 5 children.
